Munich: Process against doctor for sterilization without consent – Munich

A surgeon is on trial for allegedly sterilizing two men during inguinal hernia operations. One of those affected has been born with an intellectual disability. The parents assert: their son said he didn’t want any children.

Michael K. is a doctor by profession, specializing in abdominal surgery. For several years he worked in a managerial position at a clinic in Munich-Bogenhausen, meanwhile he works as a consultant abroad. Since this Monday, however, the 53-year-old has had to answer in court for serious bodily harm. The public prosecutor accuses K. of sterilizing two young men in early 2016 without getting their consent. The fertility of the then 17 and 24 year old men cannot be restored.
