Munich: Pro-Palestinian students occupy university lecture hall at the LMU – Munich

Pro-Palestinian students briefly occupied a lecture hall at Ludwig Maximilian University on Wednesday. They belong to a group called the “Unicommittee for Palestine Munich,” which claims to be committed “to the liberation of Palestine.” The group does not aggressively address the fact that the current war, in which the students see a “genocide”, was triggered by the terrorist attack by Hamas.

According to the police, around 10:30 a.m. around 20 people gathered in lecture hall A 140 in the LMU main building. In a video distributed by the group, you can see that they have put up a banner on the hall’s board. When the occupiers were asked to leave the lecture hall, they “immediately complied,” said a university spokeswoman. According to police, the group then gathered in front of the LMU for a demonstration.

In a leaflet, the group calls for a “deeper examination of the racist structures in international politics”, especially in Gaza. She criticizes the LMU management because, in her view, they are trying to “ignore” the situation of the people in the Gaza Strip. In times of the shift to the right, anti-Muslim racism and anti-Semitism, this is not only “irresponsible”, it promotes “anti-democratic tendencies”. When asked by SZ, the LMU management did not comment on the criticism.
