A few days after the cannabis law came into force, the police registered the first violations of it. On Tuesday around 8:30 p.m., a patrol discovered a 27-year-old man smoking a joint on the Paseo – that is the square between Pasing Arcaden I and II. The law provides for protection zones with a radius of 100 meters around such facilities.
A 17-year-old was caught with a joint near a sports facility in Obergiesing on Wednesday. In doing so, she violated the law in two ways: minors are generally not allowed to consume cannabis, and the area around sports facilities is also considered a protection zone in which smoking weed is not permitted.

The traffic police are also paying increased attention these days to drivers who may have consumed cannabis. From April 1st to 4th, 25 so-called suspected trips were registered in the city. In 19 of them, the rapid THC test – which detects the intoxicating component of cannabis – reacted positively. In these cases, a blood test must now show whether the limit of 1.0 nanograms of THC per milliliter of blood has been exceeded. A nanogram is a billionth of a gram. However, the police point out that the numbers lose their drama when compared with data from the previous year: in 2023 there were 28 suspected trips in the same four days, in 16 of which the rapid test was positive – i.e. similar values, despite cannabis consumption At that time it was still subject to the Narcotics Act and was illegal.
