In an unusual way, the police arrested six young people who are suspected of beating up and robbing a 42-year-old man at the Böhmerwaldplatz underground station on July 29. The youths were identified and arrested last week during investigations into a counterfeiting offence. Arrest warrants have now been issued for four of them, two 16 and two 17-year-olds. Two 15-year-olds were released, one because of an extensive confession, the other because he could not be proven to have acted in the robbery in Bogenhausen. None of them were previously known to the police.
The gang was busted when, according to the police, they wanted to change counterfeit 50 euro bills near the Hofgarten at around 8:45 p.m. last Wednesday. Two 24-year-olds from Munich and Lower Saxony noticed the forgery straight away and called the police. During the search in the vicinity of the Hofgarten, she found a total of eight young people aged 16 to 19, including one woman. Another counterfeit fifty was found during the check, and the public prosecutor’s office then ordered a search of the apartment. Counterfeit money worth several thousand euros was confiscated from a 17-year-old. According to the police, the forgeries were easily identified by the amateurish printing on thick paper.
While the bill of exchange fraud was still being processed, two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old were identified and arrested as suspected participants in the robbery in Bogenhausen. The next day, police identified and provisionally arrested two other suspects, aged 15 and 16. On the same day, a 15-year-old presented himself to a police inspection in the presence of a legal guardian. Commissariats 26 (robbery) and 67 (counterfeit money) of the Munich criminal police are investigating.
