And then it starts, the fog machine. And it ensures that clouds of smoke emanate from the black BMW 1 and soon fill the entire exhibition space in the Pinakothek der Moderne. Bright rays of light also come through the countless welding torch holes that the Munich performance artist Wolfgang Flatz made to the car, which was first exhibited in Paris in 2004. With the red colored headlights, “Luzi” actually looks a bit like it came straight from hell. “Luzi”, Lucifer’s little sister, is what Flatz calls this work. And the way the 71-year-old stands next to him, wearing sunglasses and dark sportswear and directly illuminated by the spotlight, there is also something diabolical about him.
