When the Spanish pianist Marco Mezquida competed at the BMW Welt Jazz Award last April in a trio with the Cuban cellist Martin Meléndez and the Catalan percussionist Aleix Tobias, the dark shadows of the pandemic still hung over the performance. But Mezquida brought with him his brand new program “Letter To Milos,” an entire album for his newly born son, who, in a heartbreaking photo that fills the inside cover, sits in front of a couch with the musicians gathered around him.
