Munich: Photojournalist attacked with drum at “lateral thinker” demo – Munich

A photojournalist was physically attacked on Tuesday during a rally of the so-called lateral thinker movement in the old town. According to police, a 60-year-old participant hit him in the face with a drum, causing him minor injuries. The police seized the instrument and charged the 60-year-old with grievous bodily harm.

In the course of the meeting with around 1,200 participants and a counter-demonstration in which around 130 people took part, offenses relevant to state security are also said to have occurred. A 48-year-old from the Erding district is said to have shown the Kühnen salute, a banned variation of the Hitler salute, named after the German neo-Nazi Michael Kühnen, in the direction of the counter-demonstrators. A police spokesman said it was still unclear whether the suspect was a passer-by or a participant in a meeting.

During the counter-demonstration, a 56-year-old from the Fürstenfeldbruck district made the Hitler salute in the direction of the lateral thinker movement. In a third case, in which a woman held up a portrait of Putin disguised as Hitler, it is still being examined whether this is a criminal offense. Afterwards, a woman reported bodily harm. A woman grabbed her wrist and called her a “Nazi.”
