An electric car was completely engulfed in flames on Saturday evening on the Autobahn 8 in the direction of Salzburg near the Munich-Perlach exit. The fire department said on Sunday that the driver heard a bang while driving onto the highway around 9:30 p.m. The vehicle then lost power and the 54-year-old driver stopped on the hard shoulder. The first flames are said to have already come out of the car.
The car finally burned down completely and the fire department extinguished the fire. The driver and the three passengers were able to get out of the vehicle in time and were uninjured. There was material damage of around 90,000 euros. The cause of the fire was initially unclear; according to the fire department, the vehicle’s battery was not damaged.
