Munich: Passer-by saves helpless 80-year-old from the Isar – Munich

A 22-year-old saved an older man’s life by jumping into the Isar. The 80-year-old was discovered floating in the Isar by passers-by at around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday near the Max Joseph Bridge. The passer-by, a lifeguard from the German Bundeswehr, recognized the danger, took off his clothes and jumped into the water. The experienced ice swimmer managed to catch up with the man in the water at Thomas-Mann-Allee and, with the help of other passers-by, pulled him ashore, the Munich fire department said.

The senior was taken to a clinic with severe hypothermia. It is not known why the man was in the water.
