Munich: Park-and-ride car park opened in Neuperlach Süd – Munich

Space for 770 vehicles, 20 parking levels, charging options for up to 72 electric cars: the new park-and-ride parking garage at Carl-Wery-Straße 37 has been officially opened since Monday. It is located directly at the Neuperlach Süd subway and S-Bahn station and replaces the old park-and-ride parking lot, which was significantly smaller with 480 parking spaces.

Commuters can park their cars in the new parking garage and switch to public transport. Eight parking spaces are barrier-free. From the outside, the modern building with its sound-absorbing facade made of overlapping metal panels is a new eye-catcher for Neuperlach. The design comes from the Viennese architectural firm Delugan Meissl Associated Architects in collaboration with Maisch Wolf Architects from Munich. The individual parking levels are each offset by half a floor, which shortens the travel distances. A photovoltaic system on the roof supplies electricity. The new parking garage cost around 17 million euros and was financed by the city from parking space fees and state funding.

The parking garage is connected to the 24-hour park-and-ride control center via intercoms and a video system. Parking costs 1.50 euros per day, However, there are also discounted tariff offersabout a monthly pass for 13 euros.

With its park-and-ride offerings, the city wants to prevent commuters from driving their cars into the city center and instead encourage them to use local public transport. The aim is to relieve pressure on the cramped inner city and create more space for other uses. According to the mobility department, commercial transport should also benefit from this.

The municipal Park-and-Ride GmbH manages parking spaces for around 14,000 cars in Munich and the surrounding area at 38 facilities and four city parking spaces.
