The SAP Garden was originally supposed to be ready by the end of 2022, but after several delays a date has now been set: the new sports arena in the Olympic Park will open on September 27th with an ice hockey game between EHC Red Bull Munich against an NHL team. Red Bull announced on Monday which team will come from the best ice hockey league in the world. In addition to the show match on Friday evening, an open day on September 28th is planned for the opening weekend, as well as a game by FC Bayern basketball the following day.
“We are proud that this project is starting at the end of September with a very special kind of sporting experience,” said stadium managing director René Dimter. The hall, which will accommodate up to 11,500 spectators, has been under construction for months. From the new season onwards, the EHC will play all of its home games in the SAP Garden, plus at least 20 home games for the Bayern basketball team every year. Popular sports events are also planned in the arena and the three ice sports surfaces associated with it.
