Munich: Olga Scheps in the Prinzregententheater – Munich

Olga Scheps sits down and plays the piano. She doesn’t adjust her seat to a tenth of a millimeter, nor does she stare into space for seconds before deciding to play the first note. She plays without any airs and is loved for it. In Beethoven’s Pathétique Sonata her hands are still cold, as the tremolos are booming in the first movement and one or two notes are missed. But this is also the truth: Olga Scheps is not a pianistic machine. She is a humane artist who can therefore have memory gaps, such as in Chopin’s fourth ballad – which she knows how to conceal well.
