Munich: NS-Document Center honored with Grimme Online Award – Munich

For some time now, the Munich Documentation Center for the History of National Socialism under director Miriam Zadoff has been breaking new ground in its work on remembrance. On the one hand, victim groups are highlighted, which have usually been underrepresented to date. On the other hand, they want to do this without a view from above and a one-sided direction of mediation, but with the greatest possible inclusion and participation.

A good example of this was the exhibition “To be seen. queer lives 1900 – 1950”, which ran until May 21, was visited by more than 100,000 people and received international attention. The show also included a computer game based on the experiences of the Dutchman Jan Bazuin in the Neuaubing forced labor camp. And an online storytelling about queer life in Germany that continues to this day.

For this, the NS-Document Center has now received a Grimme Online Award (GOA) in the culture and entertainment category. The prize has been awarded to “high-quality online offers” since 2001. In addition to the NS-Document Center, seven other prizewinners in four categories were awarded the GOA last Thursday evening. In the acceptance speech, the NS-Document Center referred to the relevance of the topic “queer lives” as well as its own pioneering role in the digital communication of history.
