Munich: New ring bus line and underground line closure after timetable change – Munich

The Munich subway recently turned 50. And this age has left its mark on the rail system, which passengers will painfully feel in the coming spring. Because the important lines U3 and U6 between Implerstraße and Goetheplatz have to be interrupted for three months due to construction work. The Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) announced this on Wednesday. From Monday, March 14th until probably Friday, June 16th, the municipal utilities will renew switches, crossings and rails in this section.

The U3 and U6 lines are used by up to 180,000 passengers every day. These will now switch to buses again and have to accept significantly longer journey times. In order to minimize the number of transfers, MVG will set up additional direct bus connections during this period. One of the two rail replacement lines continues from Goetheplatz to the main station. Line X30 will be extended during construction work from Harras via Donnersbergerbrücke to Rotkreuzplatz and will allow transfers to the S-Bahn, U-Bahn and tram.

New line numbers, stops and connections

With the timetable change on Sunday, December 12th, the MVG will also announce further changes. For example, the line designation for the tram between Max-Weber-Platz and Großhesseloher Brücke has been standardized. Line number 15 will no longer be available – tram 15 trips to and from Großhesseloher Brücke will be integrated into the tram 25 timetable. The express bus X80 in the direction of Moosach will also stop at the Ziegelei-Ring stop in Gröbenzell. This stop is already served in the opposite direction. The first trip from Moosach towards Puchheim will start at 6.11 a.m. in future. On the Metrobus 54, the booster trips in the mornings and afternoons on school days between Giesing train station and Harras are taken over by route 153. The 153er drives from Harras on over Donnersbergerbrücke, Hochschule München (Lothstraße) to Odeonsplatz. City bus route 157 will be extended to Germering (Neue Gautinger Straße stop).

In combination with the MVV-Stadt-Umland-Linie 860 there is a ten-minute cycle between Freiham and Germering from Monday to Saturday. The Ubostraße and Germeringer Weg stops are no longer available. To develop the primary school on Gotzmannstraße, however, there are still two journeys from Pasing in the morning to the Germeringer Weg stop and in the opposite direction three journeys at noon, adjusted to the school closing times, from this stop. With the exception of a few journeys, mostly during rush hour and in the evening, line 176 will in future run as line 710 between Moosach Bahnhof and Karlsfelder Straße or Dachau Bahnhof. Lines 183, 190 and 194 as well as the N74 night bus will in future also stop at the new Riemer Straße stop.

The express buses run every 20 minutes

There is good news from the Munich Tariff and Transport Association (MVV) for passengers in the surrounding area. The MVV is eliminating a long-standing flaw in the system and introducing a closed ring of tangential Expressbus connections around Munich. A total of seven lines will operate in the districts of Munich, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Dachau, Fürstenfeldbruck and Starnberg, so many passengers will no longer have to detour via Munich city center. The buses run every 20 minutes from Monday to Saturday between around 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. and every 60 minutes on Sundays and public holidays from around 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. They enable journeys between business parks and school locations as well as between S-Bahn and U-Bahn branches without having to change trains, and all vehicles have WiFi and USB connections. The MVV has all important information about the Expressbus-Ring at mvv-muenchen.de/express summarized.

The range of services is also improving when it comes to connecting some municipalities in the surrounding area with regional trains. For example, the RE 70 from Munich to Lindau and RE 76 from Munich to Oberstdorf will in future also stop in Geltendorf.
