The news of the great success of this bourgeois tragedy about an inappropriate relationship even reached Italy, to Giuseppe Verdi. “It’s a great drama, full of passion and theatrically very effective,” said the composer. And adapted the material for the big music theater: in 1849 his “Luisa Miller” was published in the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and is now an integral part of the opera literature. Torsten Fischer has now staged the tragic story about the love of the bourgeois daughter Luisa for the count’s son Rodolfo for the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz.
