Munich: Neuperlach district is to be renewed and redeveloped – Munich

New bike paths, nicer parks and toilets: 55 years after construction began, Munich’s Neuperlach district is set to revive – and the plans for this are worth millions. But is it also possible to convince the residents?

In the middle of the Neuperlach residential ring, surrounded by trees, meadows and a playground, are the huts of the district association ZAK, which also include a toilet – the only one far and wide. Now there is the problem, says Florian Mayr, while looking at the wooden buildings, that the toilet is only open when someone from the club is present. Which in turn means that parents with children, but also older people, often stand in front of locked toilet doors and therefore sometimes take care of their needs behind trees – which is not exactly conducive to the attractiveness of the green area. If you were to find a way to keep the toilet open permanently, that would be a real asset for the park, says Florian Mayr, district manager in Neuperlach since 2019. “It’s a small thing, but it would have a big impact.”
