Munich-Neuperlach: celebrations on the parking deck of the Pep shopping center – Munich

Where cars are usually parked in the open air, the operator of the Pep shopping center wants to open a party area in the summer months. However, there are still some important issues that need to be clarified.

Partying in the multi-storey car park: This concept, which has also been tried and tested in the city centre, is now to come to Neuperlach – on the top parking deck of the Pep shopping centre. As its center manager Sascha Schönherr confirms, the intention is to set up a catering and event area in the summer months where cars are usually parked in the open air. The associated working title: Summerdeck. Specifically, it is about the parking garage roof with the glass dome on Thomas-Dehler-Straße. Several snack stands, seating and a sanitary facility are to be set up here on an area of 1000 square meters. The plans also include a stage with a screen and a food truck.

“We want to create an additional attraction for Neuperlach,” says Schönherr. “This is something completely new, there is nothing comparable here.” The manager of the shopping center emphasizes that the approval process is still in the early stages. Among other things, the requirements regarding fire protection, statics and escape routes must be met. Access to the summer deck is to be via a staircase on Charles-de-Gaulle-Strasse. In this way, the roof of the car park would still be accessible after the Pep closed its doors at 8 p.m.

The planned opening times of the Summerdeck are, weather permitting, weekdays from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and until midnight before weekends and public holidays. “The idea is that people here drink a cocktail, eat some finger food and enjoy the beautiful view,” says Schönherr. He hopes the summer deck can open in June.

“If that works well, then we would like to do it again.”

Schönherr says that the idea for a catering area on the parking deck, like the culture roof garden on the Alpina car park at Stachus, came from the shopping center. Contact was made with an operator who has experience with similar projects. The shopping center wants to rent the space on the parking garage roof to them during the summer months – and if possible not just this year. “If that works well, then we would like to do it again,” says Schönherr. The loss of around 30 parking spaces does not pose a problem for the Pep during this period. It is important that the area is available again in time for the Christmas business.

The district committee of Ramersdorf-Perlach (BA) has not yet reached a final opinion on the plans for the shopping center. “It’s not entirely clear to us what exactly is supposed to happen there,” says Chairman Thomas Kauer (CSU). Therefore, Pep will ask for an idea of the plans in the BA. In the subsequent debate, it is likely to be about the noise to be expected on the buzzer deck. “We are primarily interested in what is to take place there,” says Kauer. “And what background noise is to be expected.”
