Munich: MVG bans e-scooters from public transport – Munich

The Munich Transport Company (MVG) is banning electric scooters (e-scooters) from subways, trams and buses as well as subway stations. The regulation applies from April 2nd and was recommended by the Association of German Transport Companies.

The MVG said the reason was fires involving e-scooters on public transport in other European countries. Among other things, a scooter burned in a London subway station in November 2021, and last October the battery of a scooter exploded in the Madrid subway, causing the carriage to burn out completely. Since then, scooters have also been banned on public transport there.

There are currently no uniform safety standards for e-scooters. Electric wheelchairs, pedelecs or four-wheeled electric vehicles whose safety has been certified are still allowed to ride with the MVG.
