Munich: Mayor Reiter infected with Corona – Munich

Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) has tested positive for the corona virus. According to the city hall, he will not attend the general assembly of the city council because of the quick test result. He has flu-like symptoms but can work from home. If the infection is confirmed in Reiter, it would be the second corona disease for the 64-year-old within a few months. Reiter only tested positive for Sars-CoV-2 in February. According to his own statements, he had no symptoms worth mentioning, at least at the beginning.

After the end of the Oktoberfest on Monday, the expected Wiesn wave is currently rolling through Munich. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported an incidence of 708.9 for the city of Munich on Wednesday. While the reading is lower than last weekend’s reading, there may be delays in reporting about the holiday.

Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a high number of corona cases not recorded by the RKI – mainly because by far not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations and transmission problems can lead to the distortion of individual daily values.

Not only in the city of Munich has the number of newly infected people per 100,000 inhabitants risen sharply in the past seven days – the numbers are also high in the surrounding districts: the district of Fürstenfeldbruck leads the nationwide list of incidence values with 1179.0. Incidences have also increased significantly in the districts of Munich (923.3), Ebersberg (911.7) and Dachau (905.1). Interestingly, the districts are those whose residents, according to a data analysis, attended the Oktoberfest most frequently.

According to the figures from Tuesday, the hospitals in Munich are also well occupied with corona patients – the city reported a total of 478 occupied hospital beds in normal, intensive care and transitional wards. According to the Divi intensive care register, the proportion of Covid patients in intensive care units in the state capital is 9.85 percent. Patients with the corona virus are in 40 of the 406 available intensive care beds.
