Munich: Marlene Beilharz is committed to barrier-free gaming – Munich

Computer games are her life, but many of them are not suitable for her everyday life in a wheelchair: Marlene Beilharz, 26, is not only a passionate gamer, she also designs her own games and is committed to barrier-free gaming.

She guides the cursor across the screen, confirms with a click and the next chapter begins. When Marlene Beilharz plays on the computer, she uses a mini joystick. It’s attached to her desk at head height so she can operate it with her chin. Because she was given too little oxygen when she was born, the 26-year-old is in a wheelchair and can only use her hands to a limited extent. The joystick gives her the opportunity to gamble independently. “Through the Darkest of Times” is the name of the game that Marlene plays during the interview. It’s one of those that Marlene can play without any problems. Most of the computer games are not barrier-free, which is why they are not suitable for Marlene’s practice.
