Munich: Lock at the main station because of smoking subway – Munich

On Tuesday morning, a technical defect on a train and the resulting smoke development caused obstructions on the U4/U5 subway line. Access to the platform at the main train station was temporarily blocked. At 9:15 a.m., the driver of a subway train informed her control center about the smoke development on the train, and the fire brigade then responded with several vehicles and around 60 emergency services. They noticed the smell of burning, but hardly any smoke. As it turned out, an electrical component had apparently burned through.

Because the subway was no longer operational, it had to be towed away. Temporarily only shuttle trains ran on the U4/U5 lines to and from Theresienwiese or Stachus. The route was reopened after an hour and a half. The subway driver was taken to a clinic as a precaution because of the smoke he had inhaled.
