Munich: Klitschko should speak digitally to the city council on Ukraine – Munich

Vitali Klitschko is scheduled to speak digitally to the Munich city council next Wednesday. The mayor of the twin city of Kyiv wants to describe the situation in his home country at the general assembly. “War has been going on in the Ukraine and our twin city of Kyiv for almost four weeks. Through the direct line to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, we can find out very specifically and up-to-date what is needed there and how we can at least help a little,” said Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD ).

It is planned to join Klitschko right at the beginning of the General Assembly in the Showpalast in Fröttmaning at around 9.30 a.m. The entire session of the City Council will as always live on the internet Posted. But both the timing and Klitschko’s speech are subject to change in view of the uncertain situation in the city, which has been shaken by heavy fighting, according to the town hall. In any case, everything is being prepared for this here in Munich. The digital switch is also possible at a later date.

The impetus for this came from the CSU last Friday in the city’s Council of Elders, which did not meet in public. “In the war situation, it’s important to get first-hand information about the situation in our partner city,” said parliamentary group leader Manuel Pretzl. Klitschko recently spoke to the city council of Leipzig, where there is also a partnership with the Ukrainian capital. A subsequent debate is not planned, only the mayor will say a few words.

“I expressly welcome it if Vitali Klitschko can personally give the Munich City Council his assessment of the situation in this unspeakable war and, if necessary, tell us how we can help further,” said Reiter. An important concern of Klitschko is already known and is about to be implemented: Munich will deliver twelve ambulances to its twin city of Kyiv. According to SZ information, the transporters with medical material that are urgently needed in Ukraine are to be driven from Munich via Poland and Lviv to Kyiv this week. The ambulances are ten decommissioned models from rescue technology Klein and one each from ASB and Johanniter.

The vans are loaded with bandages

The signs of the organizations and the radios that can only be used in Munich are removed before the journey to the war zone. “Otherwise, the ambulances are fully equipped with ventilators, defibrillators and other equipment to provide emergency aid to the suffering residents of Kiev and are ready for immediate use,” said city councilor Barbara Likus (SPD). The unbureaucratic help went back to her idea. “It’s obvious that ambulances are needed in Kyiv. It’s important to me that they arrive as quickly as possible.” The politician “simply wanted to help”.

The social worker is enthusiastic about the willingness to help of the donors. “We’ll load the vans with bandages and disinfectants, then we’ll get started quickly,” said the spokeswoman for human rights. At the border, the wagons would be marked with the sign of the International Red Cross. Munich had already recently delivered a large amount of aid material in containers on trains that arrived in Kyiv three days ago and are being distributed.
