The Munich Jusos call for the socialization of supermarket groups such as Rewe, Penny and Aldi. The city chairman of the SPD youth organization, Benedict Lang, wrote on Twitter on Sunday that the food supply must be democratized and accessible to everyone. “It must be an end to unfair production and working conditions.” The demand goes back to a decision by the sub-district conference of the Munich Jusos on Saturday. In this, the Young Socialists denounce widespread food poverty and the market power of large chains. The argument goes that the type of food should not be subject to the profit interests of private supermarket groups. The parliamentary group leader of the City Hall SPD, Anne Hübner, did not join the initiative. The debate about who will be able to afford food that is becoming ever more expensive in the future is “right and important”, and the proposed solution can “of course be debated”.
