The Munich job center has been taking care of 5,600 refugees from the Ukraine since June 1st. 80 percent of the unemployed refugees from Ukraine are women. At the end of June, 5,604 Ukrainian refugees aged 15 and over were registered at the Munich job center. Almost 3,000 of them are registered as unemployed, four fifths of them women. The age group of 35 to 45 year olds is the most represented with 29 percent. However, the social department assumes that since the Russian army invaded Ukraine, significantly more people have lived in Munich. According to SZ information, it could be around 15,000.
If necessary, refugees receive benefits to cover their living expenses. The prerequisite for this is a residence permit or a certificate from the immigration authorities in the district administration department. People then have three months to submit their applications. Due to the transitional arrangement, they can continue to receive their benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act until they move to the Munich job center. In addition, the regulation equalizes the volume of applications in the Munich job center, since not everyone has to submit their applications at the same time.
If benefits are approved by the Munich job center, refugees also have statutory health and long-term care insurance. In addition, the Ukrainian refugees receive advice on starting work and access to all support and qualification offers, such as language courses, integration courses and further training.
More than 4,000 refugees from Ukraine took advantage of the counseling service on integration into the labor market in the first few weeks after the change of legal status on June 1, as the restructuring of responsibilities for refugees is called in technical jargon. However, in the past few days and weeks, there have been increasing reports from people who have taken in Ukrainian women and who, together with their guests from Ukraine, often have problems with the Munich bureaucracy.
In the meantime, trade fair operations have picked up speed again. That is why the arrival center for refugees from Ukraine has moved from the exhibition grounds to Dachauer Straße 122. This is where the recording and registration of newly arriving refugees takes place. Since they are usually forwarded to another federal state and have to travel on the next day because Munich has reached its capacity, the Hotel Regent is used for short-term accommodation of refugees.
