Munich: It doesn’t always have to be a wrecking ball – Munich

No other industry consumes as many resources as the construction industry. It has long been an ecological necessity not to simply demolish old buildings – but to renovate them creatively.

You don’t always have to use the wrecking ball to remove outdated buildings and make room for modern properties. The magic word is “New Reconstruction Culture”, a term that is not only popular in Germany, but throughout Europe. Existing structures should be renewed as creatively as possible. This has long been an ecological necessity, because no other industry consumes as many resources as the construction industry. The message has also arrived in Munich. City planning officer Elisabeth Merk is already talking about a “construction turnaround” in planning policy.
