Speeches that trivialize the Holocaust, the desire for an “intifada”: the fact that this kind of thing is happening around German universities in 2024 shows one thing above all – not enough has been done to mark border lines.
The Munich universities officially position themselves clearly when it comes to the issue of anti-Semitism and state that they support Jewish students. That is laudable. The fact that these steps are not enough is shown by the fear and insecurity that Jewish students report – and not just since an attack on a Berlin student that was probably motivated by anti-Semitic sentiment.
