Munich: Franz Beckenbauer buried in the Perlacher Forst cemetery – Munich

Franz Beckenbauer was buried on Friday in the immediate family circle. The funeral took place in the cemetery at Perlacher Forst. The world-famous athlete and trainer found his final resting place in his parents’ family grave. The coffin was decorated with roses.

Beckenbauer died on January 7th at the age of 78. His death caused sadness far beyond Germany’s borders. The Bild newspaper first reported on the funeral.

Next Friday at 3 p.m. the judge will judge FC Bayern Munich held a memorial service in the arena in Fröttmaning, where fans can also say goodbye to their idol. Access is only possible with admission cards, which FC Bayern issues free of charge. According to the club, members of FC Bayern will be considered first.

Chancellor Scholz comes to the memorial event

Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) will also take part in the event. The Chancellor wanted to “show his great respect and recognition for an outstanding athlete in our country,” said deputy government spokeswoman Christiane Hoffmann at the federal press conference in Berlin on Friday. “With Franz Beckenbauer, our country is losing a great footballer, athlete and person.”

Munich’s Bundesliga game against TSG Hoffenheim on Friday evening (8:30 p.m.) is also dedicated to remembrance. As in all German stadiums, Beckenbauer will be remembered with a minute’s silence in Munich this weekend, and the players from both teams will also wear mourning ribbons. As the club announced on Friday, the Bayern professionals will also warm up with the iconic number 5 and wear a special jersey with the inscription “Thank you Franz” during the game. After the game, the shirts will be signed and auctioned off. All proceeds will benefit the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation.

As in the past few days, the Allianz Arena shines with the words “Thank you Franz”. When the team arrives and every time the Munich team scores, Beckenbauer’s song “Good Friends” is played, and scenes from the life of the world champion from 1974 (player) and 1990 (team manager) are shown on the screens. FC Bayern also invited numerous of the Emperor’s companions.
