Munich: Four fires at the SAP Garden construction site, the police are looking for arsonists – Munich

For the fourth time in just three weeks, there was a fire on the construction site of the new arena in the Olympic Park. On a mezzanine floor of the future sports facility, insulation material caught fire, as it had done twice before, again during working hours when around 200 people were working on the construction site, which was monitored by security guards and chip readers. The fire investigators of the police commit themselves this time: It is apparently a series of arson attacks.

On June 29th and 30th there was a fire at 8.30 a.m., once a ventilation system was on fire. The first fire was discovered in the early afternoon of June 14th. Fourteen workers were missing at the time, but were rescued unharmed.

On Wednesday at around 2:15 p.m., the police were alerted to the new fire at the Toni-Merkens-Weg construction site. Ten patrols drove to the scene of the fire. The professional fire brigade, which was already in the vicinity because of the upcoming concert by the singer Pink in the Olympic Stadium in the evening, had already started fighting the fire.

Four injured construction workers had to be treated by emergency services. Three of them were taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. By 5:00 p.m., the fire brigade had completed its extinguishing and ventilation work. As of Thursday, police had not been able to estimate the damage to property. The Commissariat 13 for fire offenses has started investigations into suspected arson. Anyone who can provide information on the possible perpetrator or perpetrators should contact the telephone number 089/2910-0.
