Munich: Females in the Artist Bar Talk – Munich

The year was 1977. The women’s movement had already come a long way and had achieved a lot. And yet men continued to set the tone in many, indeed most, areas. This is also the case in the visual arts. The Munich artist groups from Spur to the Herzogstrasse collective were all male-dominated. Although there were more and more female artists who were present with their works. But they often didn’t get the attention they deserved.

In 1977, the painters Lisa Endriß, Lilith Lichtenberg, Alrun Prünster Soares, Sara Rogenhofer and the now deceased Ursula Strauch-Sachs decided to counter male dominance in the visual arts and form their own group of female artists. In search of a “viable form of collective collaboration,” they founded the Weibsbilder group.

Until 1988 they worked together on images, objects and films and developed new forms of interaction, production and communication. Now four of them are coming to the Artist Bar Talk to talk about their careers and their work and show excerpts from the film “And the WeibsBild always lures”. There will also be an exhibition at the Van de Loo Projects Foundation from November 15th.
