Munich: Federal government promises funding for cycle highway – Munich

The federal government will contribute to the planning costs for a second cycle highway from the state capital to the Munich area. After parts of the cycle highway from Stachus to the university town of Garching and to Unterschleißheim are already under construction, the realization of the route through the north-eastern district of Munich to Markt Schwaben in the district of Ebersberg is becoming increasingly likely; The Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport has agreed to take on 75 percent of the planning services for the rapid cycle route as part of the “Financial Aid for Cycle Superhighways” funding program.

Overall, the route from Munich city center via the communities of Feldkirchen, Kirchheim and Poing to Markt Schwaben would be around 25 kilometers long; the construction costs are estimated at around 60 million euros. A feasibility study has confirmed that the route has a high potential of more than 6,000 commuters per day.
