Anyone who hasn’t known it for a long time anyway, at least suspects it: Nothing is so small and insignificant that it can’t become big and important through the treatment of FC Bayern Munich. Not even a blade of grass. As soon as one of the soccer pros presses his toes into the lawn of the Fröttmaninger stadium, he presses memories and emotions into it. And recently – as a partner company of the stadium promises – “all the moments that are in this turf are transported directly into the hands of the fans”.
But it doesn’t seem to be quite so direct when the lawn has to be mowed first and the grass has to be recycled. When then, from what used to be simply composted waste, miraculously – Hex, Hex, Accio, Aparecium and Expecto Patronum! – a recyclable material is conjured up, in this case paper, grass paper. And finally, when the grass fibers have to be woven into bags before fans can get their hands on them. And they only do that if they have previously spent money in one of the FC Bayern fan shops in the arena for more or less expensive fan articles, which then end up in the bag.
As you would expect, given that FC Bayern is even remotely involved, the grass bags are “a great project”. They are, so to speak, “a piece of the arena to take with you”, optionally also “a piece of lawn to take home”, as the press release enthusiastically says, in which the “innovative and sustainable campaign” is praised. A poet from the PR department of the manufacturer’s company wrote: “You can mow a racing heart. You can grab a racing heart. And all fans can now even take racing hearts home with them.” And so that the grass paper bags are not confused with ordinary paper bags, they are specially designed “with a special heart-racing motif,” as is emphasized.
Anyone who thinks this racing heart motif is heart-shaped is just as mistaken as those who believe the paper bag feels like the stadium pitch. The blades of grass are just printed, not even as a curved heart, but as a strictly geometric triangle. It doesn’t matter, you shouldn’t see everything so closely. Just coming into contact with FC Bayern transforms the bag into a relic and makes the hearts of the faithful disciples race, optionally even in a triangle.
