Munich: False police officers capture large sums – Munich

In the past few days, two senior citizens from Munich have each been stolen by call center scammers for more than 100,000 euros. The criminals pretended to be police officers on the phone and used the most common scam to get the women to hand over their money to someone who would collect them.

In the case of an over 70-year-old from Neuaubing, the gangsters even put the woman under pressure for several days with the story that her daughter had caused a fatal traffic accident and now needs bail to avoid arrest. The first contact was made last Wednesday afternoon, and the victim was regularly called on landline and mobile phones up to Friday. The woman handed over sums of money and jewelry with a total value of more than 100,000 euros three times before a relative noticed the fraud and called the police.

A woman from Waldtrudering, who was already over 80 years old, received a call from an alleged police officer at around 2 p.m. on Monday, who reported a robbery in the neighborhood and indications of a burglary in the elderly woman’s house. The man offered to have the cash in the house picked up as a precaution, whereupon the lady handed over a low six-figure amount. In both cases, the Phenomena working group of the Munich criminal police took over the investigation.
