Munich: Elevator at Ostbahnhof on permanent strike – Munich

It was only on Monday that the fire brigade had to free five people from a stuck elevator on Orleansplatz – people were trapped there again on Thursday evening. According to the police, a mother and her child were in the elevator when it stopped between two floors. The woman pressed the emergency button and drew attention to herself. The emergency call center of an elevator hotline then informed the fire brigade.

The fire brigade first tried to get the elevator running again using the emergency operation control, but was unsuccessful. As on Monday, the emergency services had to rescue the woman and child via the elevator roof. During the previous operation, a metal plate was attached between the roof hatch and the passenger compartment – the fire brigade used this to provide the trapped people with water, blankets and hearing protection. Because the plate had to be opened with a saber saw. It took an hour for the two trapped people to exit the elevator using the folding ladder. The fire brigade took the elevator out of service.

On Monday, five people, including a two-year-old toddler, were trapped in the elevator for almost two hours. They too had called the emergency services and the fire brigade had to come up with saws and angle grinders to open the roof.
