Last Thursday, an eight-year-old boy set fire to the couch in a multi-storey apartment building in Neuperlach, on which his parents slept in the living room. The 28-year-old father and his 27-year-old wife noticed the fire by themselves and extinguished it with water; the man suffered minor injuries. The alarmed fire brigade no longer had to intervene, the property damage was minor.
The eight-year-old admitted that he had deliberately lit the sofa bed mattress with a lighter because he felt neglected by his parents. They had obviously taken care of a sick sibling before. The police then placed the child under the age of criminal responsibility in an appropriate clinic. The youth welfare office was informed and involved.
