Munich: economy fears migration of the IAA – Munich

The city council’s decision to reduce the areas for the IAA Mobility trade fair on Königsplatz and on Odeonsplatz in front of the Feldherrnhalle also enrages Munich’s economy. On Friday, the restaurant association Dehoga, City Partner, the Munich city center hosts and the Munich Tourism Initiative spoke out with clear criticism. They fear that the IAA will leave Munich again. Only the criticism from environmental organizations was taken into account, while the positive voices of the local tourism industry with well over 100,000 employees went unheeded.

In 2021, the IAA Mobility provided an important impetus for tourism in Munich. “During the six days of the fair, we were able to experience a clearly noticeable revitalization of the Bavarian state capital,” says City Partner Managing Director Wolfgang Fischer. The fair brought the city revenues of 240 million euros. According to the associations, the loss to another trade fair location due to frivolous political decisions would mean “economic damage that can hardly be estimated” for the city of Munich.
