Munich: Drunken cyclists on several highways – Munich

With 1.4 per thousand alcohol in his blood, the man first drove onto the A 8, then later into the Aubinger Tunnel of the A 99. The police were finally able to stop him – and puzzled over how he was able to cover this distance.

With a blood alcohol level of 1.4, a cyclist first drove on the A 8 motorway in the direction of Stuttgart, then in the opposite direction back to Munich and then in the Aubinger tunnel on the A 99 in both directions. The police finally stopped the 62-year-old at the Freiham junction. The man was so drunk that he lost his balance when getting off his bike and fell against a guardrail, a police spokesman said.

Several drivers had reported the cyclist on the A8 to the police on Tuesday night. 20 minutes later, others spotted him in the Aubinger Tunnel both in the direction of Salzburg and in the direction of Dachau. The police are also puzzled as to how he made the journey: He allegedly left Zielstattstrasse in Sendling and wanted to go home to Freimann. The police spokesman could not say whether he was at least wearing a bicycle helmet.

The 62-year-old is now being investigated for endangering road traffic, driving against the direction of travel and endangering road traffic as a result of alcohol.
