Munich: Dok-Fest opens with a film about Alexej Navalny – Munich

The opening film of the Dok-Fest Munich has probably never been as up-to-date and explosive as this year. According to the organizers, “Navalny” will be shown at the start of the 37th edition on May 4th, a portrait of the most important Russian opposition figure and Putin opponent, Alexei Navalny.

“The film lets us experience a piece of world history up close and testifies to the brutal means with which Putin asserted his power in Russia,” says festival director Daniel Sponsel about the work of Canadian director Daniel Roher. “Navalny” accompanies the politician from the poison attack in 2020 to his return to Moscow and imprisonment.

The documentary had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and the German premiere is now to follow in Munich. It was recently announced that the documentary film festival in May was to take place in hybrid form, i.e. in the cinema and in the home cinema.
