Munich: Demo against war in Ukraine – Munich

More than 2,000 people demonstrated in Munich on Saturday against Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. First, around 80 people gathered on Europaplatz for a rally under the motto “Remembrance of war victims in Ukraine”. According to a police spokeswoman, another meeting with around 2,000 participants took place on Marienplatz.

Hans Theiss, deputy chairman of the CSU/Free Voters faction, spoke as the city representative at the large demonstration on the occasion of the second anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine. As darkness fell, a sign of solidarity with Ukraine and especially with Munich’s twin city Kiev was projected onto the facade of the town hall. “#StandWithUkraine” read there.

Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) had already published a letter on Friday in which he addressed directly to Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of the twin city. “Two years of war. An incredibly sad anniversary that represents the immeasurable suffering that the entire Ukrainian population has been exposed to since then,” wrote Reiter. Solidarity with the people of Kiev is unshakable in the German twin city. “Dear Vitali, all Munich residents and I personally long for nothing more than peace for you and your country,” assured the Mayor of Munich.
