Munich: Culture and leisure tips from Helmfried von Lüttichau – Munich

actor Helmfried of Liègeau, who became known as a television policeman in the ARD pre-evening series “Hubert und Staller”, is planning a later career as a musician. Although he is a “confessed dilettante”, he has the hope of “being a decent guitarist by the time he is 80”. Music also plays a major role in Lüttichau’s first cabaret program “Plugged”, with which he is currently on tour – as far as the pandemic allows.

Monday: In Clapton’s footsteps

For the last two years you can’t really make any plans. Unfortunately not for the tour of my solo program “Plugged”. In December, all performances were postponed again, now also in January. However, without these postponements, I might have been at the end of the tour long ago. So I got almost two years as a gift. Time to practice guitar. For example “Let it grow” by Eric Clapton, my own instrumental version. Maybe a touch more melancholic today. By the way, Clapton also appears in my favorite movie. “The Last Waltz” is a fantastic concert film directed by Martin Scorsese. It’s the farewell concert of “The Band” with many wonderful musicians. And with one of Bob Dylan’s most beautiful performances. Perfect. The evening is saved.

Tuesday: culture and cheese

Tips for Munich and the region: Cheese paradise: You get a huge selection at the Munich Viktualienmarkt.

I set off with my dog and backpack. First through the English Garden, that’s what the dog needs, then in the direction of the city center. Theatinerstrasse. I turn right for coffee in the Literaturhaus. The dog is probably making itself comfortable at the foot of the bar stool. The Literaturhaus is one of my favorite places in Munich. Highly recommended: the exhibition about the philosopher Hannah Arendt. In an interview she talks about the “risk of the public”. “You expose yourself in the public eye, as a person.” The dog and I stroll on to the Viktualienmarkt. Craving for cheese. “But the dog has to stay outside!”. There is a very generous piece for patiently waiting. For a moment I consider whether the dog has to share with me.

Wednesday: flying visit to art

Tips for Munich and region: Celebrated for his iconic portraits of style-conscious women and for his impressionistic landscapes, Alex Katz has inspired generations of painters.

Go to a museum and look at just one artist. So that you don’t get this museum fatigue in the first place. pure in Brandhorst Museum and straight to Alex Katz! When I met my wife, she often wore a black sleeveless dress. The picture with the six women in one also hangs in the museum. I gave this to my wife as a postcard. Katz’s pictures touch me in a very reduced way, although they seem almost cool. And yet they have something tender, mysterious. Great. I can only recommend such a concentrated visit to the museum, like a flying visit to art. Works for every artist. Should I do it more often?

Thursday: Movies with Tom Waits

Tips for Munich and the region: Rasp voice and tender soul: songwriter giant Tom Waits.

When you don’t eat meat, you have to be more imaginative in your cooking. Vegetables can be bland. It’s my turn now for the sweet potatoes I carried home in my backpack the day before yesterday. Mashed sweet potatoes after Ottolenghi. With roasted sesame, garlic, coriander and chili, lime zest and olive oil. Stir in Greek yogurt. Tastes fabulous with whatever. And I’m excited. Because I’m finally going to the cinema again. Sean Penn stars, Ben Stiller and Tom Waits! “Licorice Pizza”. Set in the seventies. I immediately look for Tom Waits on my cell phone, which I listened to over and over again in the eighties. “Clap Hands” from the album “Raindogs”. Sounds great!

Friday: Postponed, not cancelled

It would have been today. What I had been looking forward to for so long. My appearance with “Plugged – A solo program” in the Lustspielhaus, one of the most traditional cabaret stages in the city. Maxi Schafroth, Simon and Jan, Piet Klocke and Martina Schwarzmann – in what illustrious company I stand there in the event calendar! What an honor. After all, I’m a beginner on the cabaret stage. Setting up I always particularly enjoy the stage and the sound check in the afternoon, especially when – which is sometimes the case – guest musicians are there. You’re not that nervous yet and you can really dig in. Ok, let’s jump into the anticipation. Only postponed to April 19. But then! And as a foretaste there is a brand new clip on YouTube.

Saturday: Piste or Alm

Tips for Munich and the region: On the way to the Schliersbergalm there are always wonderful views of the Schliersee.

Getting up in the dark always feels a bit like an adventure, so it’s the weekend. I already got the right equipment ready the evening before, so that I don’t have to look for all the stuff in the morning, completely overslept, and then forget half of it again. It’s simply worth being at the lift when it opens and you feel like you’re the first to get there. If you’re lucky, the sun will slowly come over the mountain (which one actually?). The piste is still empty and after three or four hours you can safely drive home to face the traffic jam. Anyone who has just gotten up now is best not to go to the ski lift at all, but simply go for a walk, for example up the Schliersbergalm in Schliersee. You can stop at the top and even drive down again. Stop with the gondola.

Sunday: The perfect sound

Today I have no plan at all. Sometime breakfast. Everything has time. The baker Zanger is open. In the past, people were crowded in the shop, but today the queue is around the next corner. But a fresh pretzel on Sunday is like Sunday. I got a record player for Christmas, a huge surprise. Mainly because my wife, unlike me, kept her record collection. Pure relaxation. analog sound. As if the brain didn’t have to recalculate the calculated data in order to have a perfect sound experience. Maybe that’s why vinyl is on the rise again. Today: “Umm Block“, two young women from Munich with analogue electronic music. Lazy Sunday. On vinyl. “25 Hours”…
