The CSU parliamentary group in the city council wants to issue a so-called forest share in Munich. The city treasury should examine with the department for work and economy, the municipal department and the department for climate and environmental protection, to what extent the introduction of forest shares for tourists from home and abroad in Munich is possible, it says in an application.
The model is the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, where the concept has existed since 2007. With the purchase of two forest shares for ten euros each, vacationers can have trees planted and cared for on an area of ten square meters, which are intended to offset the carbon dioxide emissions caused during their vacation.
According to the will of the CSU, the Munich city administration should enter into an exchange with those responsible in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and also involve the city’s forestry operations. Because they want to plant 500,000 trees by 2025 anyway and are already desperately looking for space. The CSU wants to use “already existing areas” for the forest share trees. The financial resources could come from the recently approved climate protection budget.
