The city wants to spend 2.5 million euros to cushion the consequences of the corona crisis for children and young people in Munich with various offers. “Young people out of the pandemic” is the title of the so-called master plan with which the Department for Education and Sport (RBS) wants to help children, educators and families who have suffered particularly from the restrictions caused by Corona. In the current year, the money is to flow into the areas of day care centers, general education schools, vocational schools and the work of the Pedagogical Institute.

In October of last year, politicians, representatives of the Education Authority, the Employment Agency, the individual municipal departments and many independent and private organizations met digitally to list the problems in the individual areas in several workshops and to make suggestions on how to deal with them Situation could improve in each case. Among other things, the learning backlogs of many schoolchildren, the loneliness of many children due to closed facilities and the enormous burden on the educational staff were discussed there. The amount required by the education department is derived from the need for action formulated there.

Around 750,000 euros are to be spent on hiring additional employees in the kitapsychological specialist service in order to be able to meet the increased need for psychological counseling in the Munich educational counseling centers. Almost 100,000 euros are to be made available for the individual support of children with increased needs in individual day-care centers.

The budget of general education schools is to be increased with 800,000 euros, for example in order to strengthen the class community, catch up on learning delays or to finance training courses for teachers. Workshops for parents are also planned. In the area of ​​primary and special schools in particular, there will also be 100,000 euros for health-promoting exercise programs and swimming lessons. The city also wants to support the vocational schools with around half a million euros, which are intended to help students cope with psychological and social problems and to relieve teachers. The city council will decide on the requested funds in the general assembly on January 19th.
