A heated staircase, illuminated handrails with Braille, a screen right at the entrance and a brand new escalator: June 15, 2018 was a very special day for the Haidhausers. After nine months of construction, Deutsche Bahn (DB) finally reopened the exit from Weißenburger Straße to the Rosenheimer Platz S-Bahn station. This should be a model for all other train stations. It was a sunny early summer day. S-Bahn boss Heiko Büttner and Munich station manager Mareike Schoppe beamed with the shiny stainless steel of the stair railing. The “Future S-Bahn Munich” had begun. That’s what the DB called a program that also included upgrading the stations and the train fleet, which are now more than 50 years old.
