Munich: Conductor Raphaël Pichon made his debut with the Philharmonic Orchestra – Munich

“Lacrimosa son io” – “I am full of tears”: Three soloists sing Franz Schubert’s canon at the beginning in the Isarphilharmonie, without orchestral accompaniment in narrow spotlights. Lighting is a simple means of sharpening the ear’s perception, but is rarely used in classical concerts. Raphaël Pichon does it – as many things are unusual when the hottest of the younger French conductors makes his debut with the Munich Philharmonic. The program lasts one and a half hours without interruption, at the center of which Pichon has placed two unfinished masterpieces: Schubert’s B minor Symphony and Mozart’s C minor Mass.
