Munich: Climate activists stick to Sonnenstrasse – Munich

One activist and two activists from the “Last Generation” stuck themselves in the morning on Sonnenstrasse near the Lindberg Music House. Another activist was stopped and taken away by the police. In the meantime, the two women and the man have also been released. About 20 other climate activists were on site. Northbound traffic was temporarily halted, but is now flowing again. A rescue lane was free the whole time.

Shortly before the sticking action, activists had held a spontaneous rally at a tram stop, probably a kind of diversionary maneuver before the actual action. The participants in the unannounced gathering are still being held by the police. Around 50 officers are on duty in the area around the Stachus because of the announced tape action this Tuesday morning.

For their blockade a few days before Christmas, the activists not only accept a party behind prison walls, but also considerable financial consequences: the police want to bill their use at several hundred euros per person and the city wants to charge violations of the ban on stickers with up to fined at 3000 euros. This is not even counting possible later fines that a court could impose.

Climate protest at the Stachus: mother of two will “continue, come what may”

Among those who blocked the road at Stachus is Judith Beadle, 42. The mother of two was in the Stadelheim prison for almost the whole of November and was again locked up for several days after blockades on the Nuremberg autobahn and at the airport at the beginning of December. “The government has known for years that we have arrived in the middle of the climate catastrophe,” she explained in advance of her action, which could bring her preventive custody again.

She will “continue, come what may!” she quoted the “Last Generation” in a statement. “If we fail to remind the government of its primary duties, our whole society will fail.” Beadle is a communications designer, but according to her online profile she has only been involved in “climate activism / civil resistance” since October. She does it for her children, says the mother of two. She cannot be responsible for letting them grow up in a world without hope.
