Munich City Council: Cycle paths between car lanes put to the test – Munich

30 km/h, consideration or rather a “forgiving infrastructure”: The city council’s mobility committee is concerned with the red cycle lanes between straight-ahead and right-turn lanes.

After the fatal accident of a cyclist in Trudering at the end of April, the city council’s mobility committee will soon look more closely at the “central cycle lanes”. In administrative German, this is the name of the red-colored lanes for cyclists that lead across an intersection between straight-ahead and right-turn lanes for cars. There are currently 45 such lanes in the Munich city area, on one of which a 65-year-old woman was hit and run over by a 26-ton truck on April 26th when the driver wanted to move into the turning lane.
