Munich: Cirque du Soleil with “Corteo” in the Olympiahalle – Munich

The Cirque du Soleil guest performance at Theresienwiese was a “mega, mega success,” says the organizer. For the show “Kurios”, which runs in the blue and yellow tent until February 25th, 80,000 tickets have already been sold at halftime. And sooner than expected, the Canadian circus company returns to Munich, not in its own tent, but in the Olympic Hall. So far, only a tour through Leipzig, Mannheim, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Bremen was planned for the “Corteo” program, but now dates are scheduled for December 18th to 22nd in Munich. Tickets are available for pre-sale starting this Wednesday, February 14th.

“Corteo” (Italian for pageant) is a classic of Cirque du Soleil, started as a tent show in Montreal in 2005, revised in 2018 for the world’s large multi-purpose halls. The play is about a clown who observes his own funeral between heaven and earth and among angels.

There is room for acting and artistry right up to the roof of the hall, for example with a dance number on helium balloons. A special feature is the rotating stage, so that the audience can watch the performance sometimes from the front and sometimes from the artists’ perspective. The director is no stranger: Daniele Finzi Pasca, for example, directed the closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Turin and Sochi. Munich fans of the modern circus remember him fondly from several Cirque Eloize shows.
