Munich: Chase ride with a drunk driver – Munich

A 66-year-old man drives through Munich with a flat front tire, damages half a dozen parked cars as he drives past and collides with a cyclist. A case for the mounted police patrol.

A mounted police patrol stopped a drunk driver in the Englischer Garten on Wednesday afternoon, who had damaged half a dozen parked cars while driving past and also crashed into a cyclist. Fortunately, the woman was unharmed.

The police officers on Hirschauer Strasse noticed the car because it made loud noises because of a flat left front tire. The police tried to draw the driver’s attention to this with a show of hands, but he did not react and drove on at walking pace. A female police officer chased and flanked the car until it finally stopped.

During the inspection, the driver, a 66-year-old Munich resident, showed “significant signs of previous alcohol consumption,” the police report said. He was no longer able to get out of the car on his own and had to be leaned against a wall afterwards so as not to fall over. The man was charged with being drunk and endangering road traffic as well as fleeing an accident.
