Munich: celebratory mood on the river at the Isarinselfest – Munich

Hallelujah, how lucky: After a few cool, rainy days, summer returned to the city at the weekend – in time for the Isar Island Festival. The party between Maximiliansbrücke and Ludwigsbrücke, for which the organizers Arbeiterwohlfahrt and SPD have founded a non-profit Isarinselfestverein, is expressly declared as a “colorful summer festival”.

And although this has already taken place for the 14th time, the name is still somewhat misleading for some new visitors: the majority of the diverse music and cultural program is presented on various stages along Steinsdorfstraße; only the “Klein & Fein stage” is actually set up on the Praterinsel. True to the name, fairy tale aunts, clowns and magicians performed there for the younger audience on Sunday.

For older people there was mainly music. And because St. Luke’s Church is right in the middle of the celebration mile, the St. Luke’s Gospel Choir could not be missing. Probably the best-known gospel ensemble in the city, which can look back on more than three decades of history, heated up the atmosphere on Friday evening – with a concert in the church: Hallelujah!
