Munich: car crashes in the elevator shaft – Munich

A 77-year-old man was seriously injured when his car fell seven meters into the elevator shaft of an underground car park. The accident happened on Tuesday evening in a residential complex on Spiral Castle Street in Bogenhausen.

The garage consists of two basement floors, each of which can be reached by a car elevator. According to the police, the man standing in front of the elevator slipped from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal of the automatic vehicle while looking for the key. The car broke the elevator door and hit seven meters below through the roof of the elevator car parked in the second basement.

Firefighters secured the front part of the vehicle, which was still in the air, with substructure material in the cabin. Rescuers from the fire brigade roped down into the elevator from above and freed the casualty from the vehicle via the tailgate. The man was lucky in the misfortune, said a police spokesman.

According to initial findings, he sustained injuries to his vertebrae, but there was no risk of paralysis. The police estimate the damage to the car and elevator system to be more than 200,000 euros.
