Munich: Bronze boar back in front of the Hunting and Fishing Museum – Munich

A garbage truck hit him in the ankle, a truck dented his snout. Now the boar has taken its place in the pedestrian zone again with renewed bronze legs – and distributes happiness to passers-by who treat it more lovingly.

Munich’s most popular boar had to stay in the art foundry for a while, but now an appointment had finally been found: on Wednesday morning he was gently lifted onto his pedestal in front of the Hunting and Fishing Museum, where he will be stroked and courted, ridden and photographed from now on. The action was accompanied by the museum director and CSU faction leader Manuel Pretzl. A garbage truck rolling backwards had severely demolished three legs of the animal. Now the lower legs are like new again. Or rather: the way its creator Martin Mayer created it more than 50 years ago.

In general, the bronze “sitting boar” leads a dangerous life in front of the museum. A truck dented its snout years ago, another battered one of its barrels. But at least there are still enough people who mean well by him: regardless of all the dangers, the boar will stoically stretch out in front of the museum next to his companion, a bronze catfish, and spread happiness to all the passers-by who lovingly touch his snout. The wild population of the pedestrian zone has been restored.
